Hello Loves! Welcome to a new year, a new decade, a new day, to start again. This year my mantra is “do better than I did yesterday”. I wanted to really focus in on taking it day by day. Keeping it in sizable chunks, centered in the land of realistic goal setting.
With that, lets get real here! It is so overwhelming to think about what you need to accomplish over the next year towards smashing your goals. Yup I said it, and I know because it can feel a bit much to process and handle all the things we want to achieve and make changes to. So, going into my Health Coach mode, lets adjust the focus here, lets adjust for achievement. What if you were to just take it day by day? Focused on doing better than you did yesterday?
Well, I can say that I am confident by looking at things from that small little mind shift will lead to a better sense of accomplishment and commitment to the process. When we take things and put them into to more tangible actions it makes it, well less overwhelming. When we are not overwhelmed we are able to do such great and wonderful things. We are able to start.
This simple act of starting can cause so many people to stumble when the mind is thinking full picture mode. So take it down to brush strokes, that build to paint the bigger picture! And soon enough brush stroke after stroke, taking a step back to look at the progress made, a work of art has been created. So will you join me in committing to doing better than you did yesterday? Next week I’ll share how doing better each day looks in action.
Much Love, Nic ❤️

Hello my loves! Did you know that self reflection is a powerful tool that allows you to appreciate the changes that you have made in your life no matter how seemingly small or large they may be. A change is a change and those start with learning lessons about ourselves and the realization of these lessons and how they have caused us to shift towards something a little bit different. With that I am sharing the five lessons learned living through and in 2018.
Lesson 1 “Time doesn’t always heal loss…”
I went to visit my uncles grave after many YEARS while visiting family this past summer and I was still brought to uncontrollable tears and immense heart ache. I was surprised that even after 14 years of having to say goodbye against my will, how much sadness I still had walking up to his grave. I was not ok and will likely never be able to not shed a tear because he had the greatest impact on my life – he was the father that I never had. He was there for me without me having to give something in return for his love and attention.
The Tangible Lessons
This experience made me realize that we have to learn to accept the feelings that loss is moving us towards and not something we should learn how to get over feeling.
I’ve learned to accept the sadness and to let out the tears of sadness and feel it.
It is ok to not be ok about how something has affected you and still does because we feel how we feel no matter the time line of events.
If you feel sad feel that. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Stop caring about what others say you should be feeling no matter the timing and start caring about you. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀
Remember people affect us in different ways and their absence in our lives can forever change our world and how we feel about that new reality.
Embrace the new world order and allow yourself to feel how that person has affected you and also how the fact that they are no longer in your world has caused you to feel some kind of way.
Allow yourself to feel it and be ok with not being ok. ⠀
Lesson 2: “Growing food is hard as hell and that’s not a bad thing…”
Every single person that eats food should be required to experience what goes into growing food from seed to plate. My new stance came after finding myself having to explain, and at times, defend the cost of real food and why organic cost so much more. As someone who has a garden and grows organically I can attest to how hard it is to grow food that makes it to your plate whole and in tack without any added chemicals. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀ There is nothing wrong with it being hard. We all do things that may be just so hard and complicated to others but for us it is a breeze. We all have taken on things that were hard and learned to embrace the process. Ask yourself what’s your one thing?
The Tangible Lessons
Growing my own food has given me an instant appreciation for the hard work, time, effort, sweat, dirty hands, cuts and sometimes bruises along with the occasional achy body part, it takes to be able to harvest food that is edible for human consumption.
The biggest annoyance that also makes you understand the circle of life and how food ties into that is trying to keep the bugs and animals from eating your harvest before you can even harvest it.
This effort that it takes is just one of many reasons that organic cost more than non-organic food. You are paying for the protection of the vital nutrients that your body needs to thrive.⠀⠀⠀
If every person had to experience it all and understand what it takes to grow real food that our bodies can process will cause people to shift their perspective on things from a place of knowledge.
Lesson 3: “People and life drain me even more when I don’t create art…”
I am very much a person that feels the energies of the world around me on such a deep level. As an intuitive person I connect with people and their feelings and the unsaid truths that they unknowingly communicate with me that vibrate on a deeper level that can require me to have to dig deeper in connecting to those unsaid truths. I have learned that this is part of my gift in helping clients heal by moving through and acknowledge those unsaid truths that may be causing internal and external skin health ailments.
The Tangible Lessons:⠀⠀
This can drain my energy reserves because doing life changing work in guiding others through healing is hands on in some capacity.
In order for me to the best Health Coach that I can be I have to be sure that I am letting that energy go and have learned that as a creative person through creating in some form for me creating in some form whether through drawing, painting, plating a pretty plate, graphic designing, or photography allows me to exchange that energy for creative energy that is my happy space.
When I create I am able to do what I feel like doing without having to take into account other peoples anything.
Lesson 4: “Crowding Out is the sustainable key to loosing weight…”
This is the concept that IIN teaches and I can say with 100% certainty that it works. It works by focusing on what you want or need to eat – more of whats good for you. So take eating more greens and loving to eat pasta. Add more greens to your pasta dish. That’s what I did here with a ratio of 4 to 1 with more kale to pasta.
The Tangible Lessons:⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀
By adding in more of the good you will crowd out the space that you have to eat with more of what you need to eat more of.
When we focus on adding in things that are helpful we are more likely to keep adding until that is all that we allow into our healthy eating spaces on our plates.
Essential key to becoming healthier and reaching and staying at a healthy weight that is best for YOU!!!
Lesson 5: “Collateral damage can happen when practicing extreme self care and self love even with no intentions in causing hurt to others…”
Sometimes, when we do things that we need to do for ourselves there may be collateral damage of sorts. I have been going through an extreme period of change that has forced me to just worry about myself and my own needs. I stopped caring about the impact for doing loving things for myself that made me happy and how it would impact others because I needed to not have an excuse or distraction to not do what was needed for me and my well-being.
The Tangible Lessons
What I have learned that comes out of this is that how you show up in the world will change and people will take notice and may be all in their feelings of hurt.
There is nothing you can do about it and guess what you should NEVER sacrifice yourself to keep people from feeling all hurt in their feelings and requiring them to deal with the new reality of how you are now operating in the world in a different way.
The people that will support you in love and encouragement WILL show up and replace those hurt people that just can’t seem to adjust to the new world order.
So there you have just a few of the many lessons that came on the other side of living through the year 2018. Remember this, that if you are actively living your life and you focus on the lessons that come in the form of various tests you will always keep getting the test until you get the lesson. Here’s a cheers to being open to the lessons and tests of 2019!
Much Love, Nic
