Red Kidney Bean Happy Hummus Recipe

This week is all about finding your happy.  With that being said, we all have to eat so why not eat food that makes you happy and also makes your body happy because it is good for you too!  When I say that I LOVE hummus, I LOVE HUMMUS, it makes me happy.  This is my basic hummus recipe that it the basis that I start all of them with and add too and take away based on what I may be craving.  If you have never made your own hummus and buy from a store, you are welcome and yes I know, it tastes soooo much better than that stuff you buy at any store!

Today I am going to share with you a version that has all the food properties to make you happy from the inside out.  Meet Red Kidney Bean Hummus.  Why red kidney beans instead of the traditional garbanzo beans.  From a taste perspective it is richer and creamier than other bean varieties to me.  From a healthy food perspective they are amazing beans that has been designed to be a happy food to your body, mind and skin.  Before we get into the why it’s good for you, let’s get to the what you need to make it.

* 2 cups cooked red kidney beans (I cooked my own but canned can work as well)

* 1/4 cup fresh squeezed lemon juice

* 1/2 cup tahini

* 1/4 cup olive oil

* 2 cloves whole fresh garlic

* 1 tsp smoked paprika

* Liquid from cooking beans or from draining canned beans

* Food processor

Add all the ingredients to the food processor with the exception of the reserved bean liquid.  Blend until smooth and creamy, adding reserved bean liquid if needed to thin out to preferred consistency.  Add to a bowl, drizzle olive oil on the top, sprinkle any herbs of choice, I like cilantro and green onion sprinkled on top with a dash of smoked paprika.  Serve with what ever you hearts desire, carrots, radishes, and or cucumbers are all good options to help deliver it to your mouth for enjoyment.

Let’s talk about why you need to make this happy food, not just because it tastes good but also good for you.  Red kidney  beans have iron which increases energy levels, and manganese that aid in energy production in the body.  They also contain a key to youthful skin, flavonoids that make food wrinkle fighters.  Zinc helps in growth and repair of skin as well as helping the sebaceous glands functioning properly, when over active can lead to clogged pores that lead to acne and or dull skin.  With all those properties found in this little red bean weren’t enough well, they also contain antioxidants that help fight those free radicals that we all pick up each day and prevent them from attacking and causing damage to our cells causing the aging process to accelerate more rapidly due to the cells being damaged and compromised.

So you see, this bean is packed full of healthy properties that all lead to happy skin and happy body, the sweet spot we all want and strive to achieve and maintain.  I like to enjoy mine with carrots and radishes, I try to limit the carbs to keep my body not just my taste buds happy.  I hope you enjoy it!

Much love and yum! Nic

Skin Typing Basics

Hi Loves, and welcome to your Friday!  This months focus is on taking it back to the basics with the idea of needing to have that foundation strong and solid in order to build upon it to make lasting meaningful changes in all ares of our lives.  So, as we slowly move into the end of this month I wanted to share some helpful information that I shared exclusively with my newsletter subscribers at the start of this month.  I shared the basics of skin typing and the specific needs based on the type of skin.

When it comes to taking care of your skin you really have to know what your skin type is. This basic knowledge will help you to know what is good for your skin based on its needs and what may be counterproductive to your overall skin health. There are four basic skin types; normal, dry, oily, and combination.  I have broken down product needs and types based on the skin typing to help guide you through the basics of skin care needs.

Much Love, Nic

Now you know the types, here is a helpful video that explains how to keep it clean.   Remember that you have to know the basics to make a change and starting with your skin is a great place to start to make some changes.  It is the first thing that we present out to the world and that people see.  So why not start there with some skin with love πŸ₯°

Much Love, Nic πŸ’—

The Outcome Of Living Through 2018

Hello my loves! Did you know that self reflection is a powerful tool that allows you to appreciate the changes that you have made in your life no matter how seemingly small or large they may be.  A change is a change and those start with learning lessons about ourselves and the realization of these lessons and how they have caused us to shift towards something a little bit different. With that I am sharing the five lessons learned living through and in 2018.

Lesson 1 “Time doesn’t always heal loss…”

I went to visit my uncles grave after many YEARS while visiting family this past summer and I was still brought to uncontrollable tears and immense heart ache.  I was surprised that even after 14 years of having to say goodbye against my will, how much sadness I still had walking up to his grave.  I was not ok and will likely never be able to not shed a tear because he had the greatest impact on my life – he was the father that I never had. He was there for me without me having to give something in return for his love and attention.

The Tangible Lessons

  • This experience made me realize that we have to learn to accept the feelings that loss is moving us towards and not something we should learn how to get over feeling.
  • I’ve learned to accept the sadness and to let out the tears of sadness and feel it.
  • It is ok to not be ok about how something has affected you and still does because we feel how we feel no matter the time line of events.
  • If you feel sad feel that. β €β €β €β €β €β €β €β €β €β €β €β €β €β €β €β €β €β €β €β €β €
  • Stop caring about what others say you should be feeling no matter the timing and start caring about you. β €β €β €β €β €β €β €β €β €β €β €β €β €β €β €β €β €β €β €β €β € β €β €β €
  • Remember people affect us in different ways and their absence in our lives can forever change our world and how we feel about that new reality.
  • Embrace the new world order and allow yourself to feel how that person has affected you and also how the fact that they are no longer in your world has caused you to feel some kind of way.
  • Allow yourself to feel it and be ok with not being ok. β €

Lesson 2: “Growing food is hard as hell and that’s not a bad thing…”

Every single person that eats food should be required to experience what goes into growing food from seed to plate. My new stance came after finding myself having to explain, and at times, defend the cost of real food and why organic cost so much more. As someone who has a garden and grows organically I can attest to how hard it is to grow food that makes it to your plate whole and in tack without any added chemicals. β €β €β €β €β €β €β €β €β €β €β €β €β €β €β €β €β €β €β €β €β € β €β €β €
There is nothing wrong with it being hard. We all do things that may be just so hard and complicated to others but for us it is a breeze. We all have taken on things that were hard and learned to embrace the process. Ask yourself what’s your one thing?

The Tangible Lessons

  • Growing my own food has given me an instant appreciation for the hard work, time, effort, sweat, dirty hands, cuts and sometimes bruises along with the occasional achy body part, it takes to be able to harvest food that is edible for human consumption.
  • The biggest annoyance that also makes you understand the circle of life and how food ties into that is trying to keep the bugs and animals from eating your harvest before you can even harvest it.
  • This effort that it takes is just one of many reasons that organic cost more than non-organic food. You are paying for the protection of the vital nutrients that your body needs to thrive.β €β €β €
  • If every person had to experience it all and understand what it takes to grow real food that our bodies can process will cause people to shift their perspective on things from a place of knowledge.

Lesson 3: “People and life drain me even more when I don’t create art…”

I am very much a person that feels the energies of the world around me on such a deep level. As an intuitive person I connect with people and their feelings and the unsaid truths that they unknowingly communicate with me that vibrate on a deeper level that can require me to have to dig deeper in connecting to those unsaid truths.  I have learned that this is part of my gift in helping clients heal by moving through and acknowledge those unsaid truths that may be causing internal and external skin health ailments.

The Tangible Lessons:β €β €

  • This can drain my energy reserves because doing life changing work in guiding others through healing is hands on in some capacity.
  • In order for me to the best Health Coach that I can be I have to be sure that I am letting that energy go and have learned that as a creative person through creating in some form for me creating in some form whether through drawing, painting, plating a pretty plate, graphic designing, or photography allows me to exchange that energy for creative energy that is my happy space.
  • When I create I am able to do what I feel like doing without having to take into account other peoples anything.

Lesson 4: “Crowding Out is the sustainable key to loosing weight…”

This is the concept that IIN teaches and I can say with 100% certainty that it works. It works by focusing on what you want or need to eat – more of whats good for you. So take eating more greens and loving to eat pasta. Add more greens to your pasta dish. That’s what I did here with a ratio of 4 to 1 with more kale to pasta.

The Tangible Lessons:β €β €β €β €β €β €β €β €β €β €β €β € β €β €β €β €β € β €β €β € β €β €β €

  • By adding in more of the good you will crowd out the space that you have to eat with more of what you need to eat more of.
  • When we focus on adding in things that are helpful we are more likely to keep adding until that is all that we allow into our healthy eating spaces on our plates.
  • Essential key to becoming healthier and reaching and staying at a healthy weight that is best for YOU!!!

Lesson 5: “Collateral damage can happen when practicing extreme self care and self love even with no intentions in causing hurt to others…”

Sometimes, when we do things that we need to do for ourselves there may be collateral damage of sorts. I have been going through an extreme period of change that has forced me to just worry about myself and my own needs.  I stopped caring about the impact for doing loving things for myself that made me happy and how it would impact others because I needed to not have an excuse or distraction to not do what was needed for me and my well-being.

The Tangible Lessons

  • What I have learned that comes out of this is that how you show up in the world will change and people will take notice and may be all in their feelings of hurt.
  • There is nothing you can do about it and guess what you should NEVER sacrifice yourself to keep people from feeling all hurt in their feelings and requiring them to deal with the new reality of how you are now operating in the world in a different way.
  • The people that will support you in love and encouragement WILL show up and replace those hurt people that just can’t seem to adjust to the new world order.

So there you have just a few of the many lessons that came on the other side of living through the year 2018. Remember this, that if you are actively living your life and you focus on the lessons that come in the form of various tests you will always keep getting the test until you get the lesson. Here’s a cheers to being open to the lessons and tests of 2019!

Much Love, Nic
